How do leap cards work




















Just top-up, touch on and travel. There are differences in fares, usage and entitlement depending on which card you are eligible to purchase. When you use Travel Credit to pay for two journeys within 90 minutes of your previous journey, an automatic discount will apply to the second fare.

Student Leap Card is available to all third-level students in full time education through which students can save across public transport operators nationwide. Once you hit the cap, you travel free for the rest of the day or week. Tickets are ordered through your employer.

TaxSaver Leap Cards can be topped up with travel credit and other tickets which can be used to pay for travel on all Leap services.

Travel credit can be loaded onto your card and used to pay for travel on Leap enabled services. See Collection Device Locations for the locations of these collection devices. If you are collecting your top-up at a Payzone TFI Leap Card outlet, present your card to the reader at the counter and ask for a balance check.

Your online Top-Up will load and your new balance will update automatically. Remember, on the Luas, DART and Commuter you need to touch on at the pole by the railway tracks to board, but don't forget to touch of at the pole at your departure either, which ensures the correct fare is taken from your Leap Card.
